Mike Getch began his career in education in 1994 as a teacher's aide at Crown Point Elementary for the San Diego Unified School District. He found this to be a great jumping point into the world of education and it brought clarity to his desire for helping young people learn. Mike began taking courses at SDSU to obtain his Teaching Credential and after doing so was granted a job teaching P.E. at Miller Elementary. The following year he was given a position as a first grade teacher at Euclid Elementary. The next twelve years of his life were spent teaching hundreds of children at Euclid. Mike's favorite part about teaching at Euclid was the children and families he had the privilege of teaching and meeting through the years. Euclid is located in City Heights and is made up of many different peoples from many different cultures. The year he began at Euclid, over eighty different languages were spoken in the homes of our students. He taught students from Sudan, Somalia, Cambodia, Laos, Honduras and many places in between.
In 2005 Mike decided to start a tutoring company for the simple reason that he knew a lot of teachers who would make great tutors. By coincidence, that same year, a federal program started offering tutoring to students who were struggling financially and attending under performing schools. He applied to be a provider of tutoring for these students. Mike's application was approved, and that year his company tutored fifty students throughout San Diego. At this time he was still teaching and running the tutoring business out of his garage. Now Mike's company tutor over a thousand students per year, they have three offices and they help students from Sacramento to the Mexican Border.
